Chandler Christian School
Adopt-A-Cop Program
The Adopt-A-Cop program was founded in 1999, by CCS Administrator, Marie Wilson, after a Chandler officer was killed in the line of duty. Marie shared, “Having grown up in Chandler, I remembered waving at the officers as they patrolled and protected the city. I began to ask the Lord what we could do as a Christian school to encourage our officers. Immediately, Adopt-A-Cop was born.”
Chandler Christian School developed a relationship with the Chandler Police Department and has committed to praying for the safety of our officers. The objective of the program is to reach out to the Chandler community and appreciate local police officers. The police department provides a list of officer’s names and we assign students an officer to pray for. The students pray for the officer and correspond with the officer, letting them know they are being prayed for. We then deliver the cards to the police department. Each year we invite the officers on campus to visit with the students who have adopted them. The officers answer any questions the students have and share wonderful stories with them. The department brings the D.A.R.E. car, the Canine Unit, and the Mobile Command Station to show the students. The event provides an opportunity for the students and officers to meet and fosters an excellent relationship with the students and the officers.
After 12 years of adopting officers, our relationship with the Chandler Police department remains strong. The program aligns with the biblical mandate: “Here are my directions: Pray much for others; plead for God’s mercy upon them; give thanks for all He is doing for them. Pray in this way kings and all others who are in authority over us, or are in places of high responsibility,” 1 Timothy 2:1-2. In 2008 the City of Chandler recognized this program with a Proclamation that was issued by the city to support and embrace the exceptional program we have developed.
